NATO leaders agreed during their emergency meeting held in Brussels today, Thursday, to strengthen the eastern wing of the alliance by deploying 4 battle groups in Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia.

In response to a question about the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO leaders agreed "not to deploy any ground forces in Ukraine, because of the serious repercussions that could result from such a step."
