The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) - Saudi Aramco’s Citizenship Initiative - launches the third edition of the “Tanween” “, which is the largest creative event in the Kingdom, during the period from 11-14 Rabi Al-Awal 1442 AH corresponding to (28-31 October 2020 AD), which includes an elite group of speakers, a bouquet of rich workshops, training courses, and valuable dialogues aimed at supporting and developing creative fields in the region, and developing the design and creative level of the participants from designers, professionals and students, as Tanween works this year to expand Its impact base by adding a set of virtual events for the first time in line with the exceptional circumstances imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Director of Programs at King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithraa) Abdullah Al-Rashed said, “The main goal for which a global cultural edifice was established as a (Ithra) center is to prepare us all for the future, by enabling the next generation to transform today’s ideas into Tomorrow’s reality. Therefore, by developing creativity and innovation, we can bridge the gap to create a “new future” by encouraging and developing creative industries and launching towards global visions with local content.
Al-Rashed also explained that this year’s Tanween season will bring together a number of local and international creators, artists, designers and entrepreneurs to envision the future shape that they imagine. Tanween also aims to inspire participants, develop creative industries and their creative thinking in all sectors, as data show that the creative sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in the global economy, in addition to being a transformative tool in generating more income, jobs and exports, as UNESCO estimates, That the cultural and creative sectors generated about $ 2.25 trillion. It has also pumped more than $ 250 billion into the global economy as global output is expected to grow by more than 10%. Meanwhile, the creative sector is creating nearly 30 million jobs around the world. Tanween will shed light on the opportunities available in different disciplines, which will demonstrate the tangible impact of creativity in all sectors.
The Tanween season 2020 will offer renewed ideas that contribute to enhancing communication between participants and those with expertise, and linking talents and specialists through personal meetings and individual consultations through the application of the 30-minute Zoom, which enables participants to meet with specialists, in addition to providing greater opportunities for communication and building ideas.
The Tanween season activities will begin this year with a panel discussion for each of the CEO of the Architecture and Design Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Sumaya Al-Sulaiman, and Joanna Peña Beckley (Head of Research and Design for Alexa Devices at Amazon), while Duncan Wardle (Former Head of Innovation and Creativity at Disney) will discuss ) “How to Achieve Creativity” with Mahmoud Abdel-Rahman (from Heyud Creative and Design Consulting). This is followed by an advanced course by Sir Martin Sorrell, a pioneer in advertising who during his 33 years as CEO built and transformed WPP from a million dollar holding company to the largest advertising and marketing services company in the world.
Designer Gareth Neal will also talk about craftsmanship, designer Mohamed Samir will talk about the art of printing, while Patrick Schumacher, chief architect at Zaha Hadid Studio, will discuss architecture with Abd al-Rahman Al-Madallah of the Eastern Region Development Authority. Other sessions will be presented by Karina Knobs (on digital fashion), Georgia Lobby (on data visualization), Stefan Sagmeister (on graphic design) and Mary Vogelsang (on food design).
The commitment of the Ithra Center to empower creative people to succeed is also reflected during the Tanween season, with the film director Dr. Hakim Jumaa the participant will discover the most important requirements to be a successful self-employed by demonstrating the necessary effort to become a professional.
