The oasis, surrounded by a desert, is full of greenery, which made its shape distinctive, and prompted thousands to interact with the image, and hundreds to share it, through their pages on social networking sites. It is also a large basin of wetlands, with an area of 1,200 square kilometers.
The agency published some information about the oasis, in which it said that it has preserved human life for nearly 8000 years, and is fed by Bahr Youssef, which is one of the natural channels of the Nile River, and the oasis in the past was a lake, according to what NASA explains.
The page indicated that the ancient Egyptian was thinking of bold measures, especially when the flood waters fell.
Evidence indicates that the pharaohs dealt with this by expanding Bahr Yusef, to manually return water to that area.
This project is considered one of the oldest huge hydrological projects in the world, in ancient times.
According to the page, farms and orchards fill the depression, spread crops and provide basic resources for life, including endangered birds, fish and deer.
The photo was published on NASA Twitter account, and the pioneers of various social networking sites shared it with great admiration, especially the residents of the Egyptian governorate, in which the "heart" is located. Considering that the picture is amazing and calls for contemplation, and that the page published it to celebrate "Valentine's Day", which falls on February 14 of each year.
