Saudi Arabia affirms its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, manifestations and methods
New York - His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, manifestations and methods, which are intended to incite terror among civilians in a way that cannot be justified, regardless of the declared slogans or goals.
In the Kingdom’s speech during the second high-level United Nations Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Services in the Member States today, Dhu al-Qa’dah 18, 1442 AH, corresponding to June 28, 2021 AD - via video conference, His Highness expressed his happiness to participate in the conference, indicating that this year is of special importance The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center is in its tenth year since its establishment, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, since it invested in its establishment in 2011, remains a vital partner and supporter of the United Nations system in combating terrorism and extremism.
His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs said: Terrorism continues to pose a challenge to international peace and security, which in order to combat it requires the solidarity of the entire international community, urging all Member States and international and regional organizations to implement the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the resolutions related to its review, which attest Adoption of the seventh review of this year.
He indicated that the Kingdom is keen to adopt all means of combating the financing of terrorism by signing and ratifying many bilateral, regional and international agreements, and strengthening international legal cooperation in criminal matters related to terrorism and its financing.
His Highness added: The Kingdom's endeavor to combat terrorism was not only through traditional measures to combat terrorism, but rather by addressing the crimes emanating from it in the cyberspace through legal, technical and cognitive means, and that the National Cyber Security Authority and the Intellectual War Center in the Kingdom provide important examples. To national institutions specialized in rooting out extremism and terrorism, as well as the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal), which deals with extremist ideology with the latest innovative methods and means that analyze extremist discourse.
He pointed out that a memorandum of understanding was signed in April 2021 between the United Nations Center for Counter-Terrorism and the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal), which reflects the Kingdom's methodology in supporting the efforts of the international community in combating this scourge.
His Highness added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attaches great importance to promoting a culture of peace and dialogue and combating hatred, racism and exclusion, and this is clearly reflected through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Global Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue and the United Nations Initiative for the Alliance of Civilizations. The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Issued on December 31, 2020, played an active role, as the Center implemented more than 51 programs and projects that benefited 175 countries, adding, “Here, I take the opportunity to invite all countries to support the work of the Center, which seeks in particular to help build capacity for member states. in implementing the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
He said: "The Kingdom has suffered from terrorism, but it has managed, thank God, to achieve decisive results in defeating it, and it is still continuing to take many necessary measures to combat this dangerous scourge at all national, regional and international levels, and work to implement the provisions of international law and international resolutions. Relevant to the prohibition of committing, financing, inciting or participating in terrorist acts or protecting their perpetrators, as it has responded and supported all international resolutions and committees to combat terrorism, and the Kingdom’s government believes that joining international conventions related to terrorism must be accompanied by sincere intentions to combat this phenomenon. and eradicate it.”
His Highness the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the need to push more efforts towards the pillars of the international strategy to combat terrorism, foremost of which is the focus on development and education, and the establishment of justice and the rule of law for its important role in eliminating the roots of this phenomenon, and stressing the importance of differentiating and not linking terrorism with murder. Innocent people and the assault on their property, and the right of peoples to self-determination and struggle for their sovereignty and resistance to foreign occupation, and that the condemnation of terrorism includes the systematic state terrorism that is practiced openly against defenseless civilians.
His Highness stressed that combating this dangerous scourge and achieving security will only come through concerted international efforts and devoting the true will to combat it, in order for humanity to achieve its sustainable development aspirations in the light of peace and security for all.
