Saudi Arabia... Launching the world's first flying museum
The Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate and "Saudi Airlines" announced the launch of the "Sky Museum" flight from Riyadh to Al-Ula, to be the first flying museum in the world in a joint cooperation to shed light on the archaeological sites of Al-Ula.
The trip will start next Thursday and on board the Flying Museum, where selected replicas of a number of artifacts discovered in Al-Ula during the excavations of archaeologists will be displayed.
"Saudi Airlines" is taking this opportunity to launch a new channel in the entertainment system (IFE) during the flight "Discover Saudi Arabia", where guests will be able to watch the documentary film from the Discovery Channel "Architectures of the Ancient Arabian Peninsula", a documentary film launched in 2021 AD produced by Powder House, reveals the laying of the first cornerstone of human civilization in AlUla.
During the trip, the Director of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage Research at the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, Dr. Rebecca Foote, will give an introduction to the documentary, as well as an explanation of the artifacts in the Flying Museum and answer questions from the guests.
Dr. Rebecca Foote said: “There is an enormous amount of work going on in AlUla by teams of local and international archaeologists, however we are only just beginning to understand the complex nature of AlUla’s past. AlUla is a hidden gem in the Arabian Peninsula, and we continue to unravel its secrets little by little. I look forward to sharing more information about our work for passengers on the Saudi Arabian Airlines (Sky Museum) flight.”
For his part, Director of Discovery Channel for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Kerry McAvoy said that showing the documentary on Saudi Airlines' new entertainment system channel during the flight aims to provide educational and entertaining content to enthusiastic viewers around the world.
Philip Jones, head of the SCTA's Destination and Marketing Department, said: "The (Sky Museum) trip refocuses on Al-Ula as a living museum and once again highlights the importance of the archaeological work we are doing in Al-Ula, which we believe is the largest archaeological program in the world today. It is an honor to work with Saudi Airlines. We welcome all guests and visitors coming over the coming months to explore more about the living history of AlUla.”
In turn, the Assistant Director General of Saudi Airlines for Corporate Communication, Khalid bin Abdulqader Tash, confirmed that the "Sky Museum" comes in support of the continuous cooperation with the "Al-Ula Authority" to display the rich heritage of Al-Ula and promote it globally as a tourist destination.
AlUla offers a wide range of activities, both year-round and seasonal, to welcome local and international visitors in the coming months, as guests on board the "Sky Museum" trip will have the opportunity to book the first tickets to attend the "Evening of Stone" experience.
A new program will be launched that includes 4 different festivals, starting from December 21, 2021 AD, which are Winter at Tantora Season Three, Sky of AlUla, Arts of AlUla, and the activity of relaxation and recreation.
