His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, received Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha, and they held a session of official talks, during which they stressed the two countries’ keenness on the importance of strengthening friendship ties between them and opening a new page in relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Thailand. The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand affirmed that his country attaches the utmost importance to the ties of friendship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is keen to end all outstanding issues between the two sides, expressing his sincere regret over the tragic events that occurred in the Kingdom of Thailand in the period between 1989 AD - 1990 AD, and affirmed that The Thai government has made great efforts in resolving the previous cases, and it is ready to raise cases to the competent authorities in the event of the emergence of new and relevant evidence related to the unfortunate cases, stressing the commitment to protect members of the mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Kingdom of Thailand, in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 AD. The two sides expressed their commitment to making all efforts to ensure the safety of the citizens of the two countries.
The two sides reviewed all regional and international issues, and discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries in all fields, and agreed to intensify contacts and cooperation between government officials and the private sector in the two countries with the aim of advancing bilateral relations to broader horizons, in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries.
The two sides emphasized the spirit of cooperation and shared decisions in order to revive the friendship and good relationship between the two kingdoms and their peoples, through the guidance and wise vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz Dear Al Saud, and the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the agreement to fully restore diplomatic relations between the two countries. This historic step comes as a result of long-term efforts at various levels by both sides to restore mutual trust and friendship.
The two sides agreed on important steps that would enhance bilateral relations, including: appointing ambassadors in the two capitals in the near future, and establishing a consultative mechanism to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as communication will be intensified in the coming months to discuss bilateral cooperation in key strategic areas.
Ways to strengthen and enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries were discussed by exploring investment and opportunities available in the light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, and Thailand’s development priorities, which include the policy of a dynamic - circular - green economy, in addition to discovering new areas of cooperation, such as: renewable energy and the environment. digital transformation, and cybersecurity.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening relations between the two peoples, which will be the cornerstone for the development of relations between the two countries, in addition to promoting constructive dialogue and cultural diversity.
The two sides agreed to continue the exchange of support and coordination in international organizations and forums, and stressed the importance of all countries’ commitment to the United Nations Charter and the principles of international legitimacy, adherence to the principles of good neighborliness, respect for the unity and sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and striving to resolve disputes by peaceful means.
They welcomed the constructive roles of both countries in their regions, in particular the influential role of the Kingdom of Thailand in ASEAN and the leading role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in maintaining peace and security, and its humanitarian and development efforts.
The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand congratulated the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on its success in organizing and holding the G20 summit meetings, and the positive decisions that resulted in all economic, development, environmental, health, energy and other fields.
