Signing an agreement between the Arab and International Parliamentary Unions

Within the framework of the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union currently being held in the Spanish capital, Madrid, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, signed a technical cooperation agreement between the Arab Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is the first between the Union and a regional parliament, signed by Mr. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Federation.
The agreement confirms the strengthening of frameworks and mechanisms for joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest between the Arab Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and more specifically, and regulates cooperation between the two sides in four main areas, the first: building strong parliaments and enhancing their contribution to sustainable development, and the second: promoting gender equality and empowering Women, the third: the protection and promotion of human rights, and the fourth: combating terrorism, extremist ideology and hate speech.
Following the signing of the agreement, Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the IPU, confirmed that he directed the concerned sectors in the union to work quickly to coordinate cooperation with the Arab Parliament in these four areas in order to start institutional and sustainable cooperation between the two sides, adding that this agreement represents a new stage and a qualitative turning point in The relationship between the Arab Parliament and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
In turn, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament affirmed his full agreement with "Martin" on the need to expedite the implementation of this agreement on the ground, adding that the signing of this agreement came as the culmination of many steps of constructive cooperation between the two organizations over the past few months, which witnessed meetings and discussions Intensive training of the President of the Arab Parliament with the senior leaders of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in order to strengthen institutional cooperation with the Arab Parliament in many areas of common interest.
The signing ceremony of the agreement was attended by Deputy Ambassador Abdullah Al-Aifan, Representative Ihsan Barakat, members of the Arab Parliament, as well as a number of leaders of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
