Saudi Arabia: The Palestinian issue is a basic Arab issue ... and the Kingdom's position is firm
New York: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia affirmed that peace, security and stability cannot be achieved for the Palestinian people unless they obtain their legitimate rights to live on their land in a manner that fulfills their hopes and aspirations,based on the principles of the United Nations Charter that are primarily concerned with achieving international peace and security,suppressing acts of aggression and preventing the causes that threaten Peace and their elimination, which affirms respect for the principle of equal rights among peoples, and that each has the right to self-determination.
This came in the Kingdom's speech delivered by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Dr. Khaled bin Muhammad Manzalawi, within the work of the (second) Economic and Financial Committee during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in the item on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the Palestinians people's living conditions in the occupied territory.
Manzalawi said: The Palestinian issue is a fundamental Arab issue, stressing that the Kingdom has not hesitated to defend the Palestinian cause since the era of the founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman - may God have mercy on him - and to this day, as this issue remains at the top of the issues that the Kingdom supports in its foreign policy.
He pointed out that the Kingdom's position remains firm in the Palestinian issue and in defending the legitimate rights of Palestinians, and in adhering to the Arab peace initiative that was drawn up by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and adopted by the Arab countries at the Beirut summit in 200, which affirms the Palestinians' right to obtain an independent Palestinian state on the borders of the 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital, the return of refugees and the withdrawal of the occupation(forces) from the Syrian Arab Golan Heights. This historic initiative came as an important pillar supporting the end of the Arab-Israeli conflict and enhancing opportunities for peace between all parties.
Dr. Manzalawi added: The Kingdom once again expresses its commitment to support the strategic choice for peace in accordance with international resolutions and laws,stresses the importance of the Israeli occupation ceasing to build settlements on Palestinian lands, and supports what was stated in Security Council Resolution 2334, which affirmed that the Israeli occupation of settlements on Palestinian lands constitutes A flagrant violation national law, and an obstacle to achieving lasting and comprehensive peace.
With regard to the social and economic conditions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Kingdom's permanent delegation to the United Nations stressed the importance of Palestinians obtaining their most important rights to establish economic growth that contributes to providing livelihoods and improving their conditions, especially in light of the economic downturn the world is witnessing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Manzlawi pointed out that the Palestinian government and the Palestinian people face a set of economic and social challenges that are increasing as a result of long years of unjust Israeli occupation, stressing that the international community must unite in supporting equitable solutions to establish peace between the two parties, and intensify efforts to support the Palestinian economy and achieve protection. He continued, saying: Because of the Kingdom's pioneering role in the humanitarian field and its belief in the right of the Palestinian people to peace and stability, the Kingdom's government has not hesitated to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people, as the Kingdom contributed over the long years of occupation by providing support to the Palestinian brothers, where the total contributions amounted to date, more than 2 billion US dollars.
He also explained that the Kingdom is one of the largest donors to UNRWA through the agreements signed with the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action and the Saudi Fund for Development.
Dr. Manzalawi drew attention to the fact that in light of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in implementation of the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his Crown Prince -may God protect them -, the Kingdom signed an agreement with UNRWA through the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action to support it In the face of the Corona virus in the Gaza Strip, the Kingdom also provided assistance to support the capabilities of the Palestinian Ministry of Health to address the Covid-19 pandemic, amounting to more than 10 million riyals.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations concluded his speech, stressing that the Kingdom's support for Palestine stems from its belief in the importance of the Palestinian cause, in defense of the rights of Palestinians to live a decent life, and the importance of promoting peace between the conflicting parties,stressing the importance for the international world to pay attention to the Palestinian cause and intensify International efforts to end the conflict and stabilize the region.
