In front of the media's lenses, the new governor of East Azerbaijan Province in northern Iran, Zain al-Abidin Razavi, was slapped during his inauguration ceremony.



Iranian media circulated footage showing an unknown person suddenly emerging from behind the scenes during the speech of the new governor of East Azerbaijan and a strong slap in the face of the latter.

Soon, other people rushed to the intervention to apprehend the assailant.

Media reports indicated that this incident came at the sight of Iranian Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi, who attended the ceremony.

Some Iranian reports claimed that there were personal motives behind the attack on the new governor.

  She stated that this unknown person is a member of the armed forces.

However, Razavi said later during the ceremony that he did not know his assailant, adding that he considered this person an enemy.
