Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Saudi Aramco announced the completion of Aramco's acquisition of a 49% stake in HUMAIN, an artificial intelligence company, while PIF retains a controlling 51% stake. The transaction reinforces Saudi Arabia's efforts to develop a globally competitive technology industry.
The deal includes approximately SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in cash contributions from Aramco during 2026, alongside the transfer of assets related to artificial intelligence, computing, and digital technologies, supporting HUMAIN's expansion in advanced technology infrastructure and services.
Launched in May 2025, HUMAIN aims to develop AI data centers with a total capacity of 3 gigawatts by 2030, alongside high-performance computing, cloud platforms, and advanced language models, including the Arabic AI model ALLAM.
The partnership combines PIF's investment capabilities with Aramco's industrial and technological expertise, strengthening opportunities to develop AI solutions for both the public and private sectors and supporting Saudi Arabia's ambition to export advanced technology solutions and services to global markets.
BETH Analysis | Beyond Energy
The significance of the transaction lies in Aramco's expansion from deploying AI to enhance its industrial operations into directly investing in the development of commercial and technological AI capabilities.
The partnership also provides HUMAIN with a stronger financial and industrial foundation to implement major projects requiring substantial investment in energy, data centers, and advanced computing.
The next challenge extends beyond the scale of investment. It lies in Saudi Arabia's ability to transform AI infrastructure into a globally competitive industry that generates economic returns while localizing advanced technologies and expertise.
