Operation “Dawn of Yemen” entered its seventh day amid ongoing fighting in western and southwestern Yemen and a Houthi escalation targeting Saudi civilian facilities, as Washington began considering direct military participation against the Houthis.
Military Operations
Yemeni government forces, supported by the coalition, continue their operations on the Taiz and western coastal fronts, following reported advances in Al-Wazi'iyah, the highlands south of Taiz, and positions near Bab al-Mandab.
Fighting is concentrated around mountainous positions and supply lines leading to the coast, amid Houthi resistance and attempts to recapture positions. Accounts of control over some areas remain conflicting.
12 Deaths at Riyadh Airport
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation announced on Sunday that the death toll from Saturday's attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh had risen to 12, with 309 injuries, including critical cases.
The fatalities included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.
The authority confirmed that assessments of the material damage to airport facilities were continuing.
Coalition Vows Retaliation
Coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki held the Houthis responsible for the attack on one of the passenger terminals, describing the targeting of civilians as a fully constituted war crime.
He confirmed that the Joint Forces Command of the coalition would respond firmly to the attack, in accordance with international humanitarian law and the customary rules of warfare.
In a related development, the Houthis renewed their warnings to airlines and travelers against using Saudi airports.
Trump Considers Intervention
US President Donald Trump announced that his country was considering joining military operations against the Houthis, confirming that a decision would be made quickly.
Trump did not rule out the possibility that the attack on Riyadh Airport could affect his earlier decision to postpone further strikes on Iran until after the November elections, without announcing any official change to that decision.
BETH Analysis | Outlook
The confrontation is shifting from reclaiming territory to testing the ability to protect civilian facilities and deter cross-border attacks.
The attack on Riyadh Airport places the Houthis before a military response that the coalition has declared its intention to carry out, while Trump's statements raise the possibility of broader US participation.
The next phase remains linked to the outcomes of operations in Taiz and along the western coast, the ability of Yemeni forces to consolidate their advances, and preventing continued attacks on Saudi territory.
The strategic challenge is no longer limited to making territorial gains, but to transforming them into stable control that reduces the Houthis' ability to threaten Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and international navigation.
