International Maritime Industries (IMI) has signed an agreement with Lamprell to fabricate a range of offshore structures, including production platforms and offshore platform support structures, for the first time at IMI’s industrial complex in Ras Al-Khair, as part of an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation project being carried out by Lamprell.

The agreement marks an important expansion in the scope of the complex’s operations, adding the fabrication of offshore structures linked to energy projects to its existing capabilities in shipbuilding, offshore rig construction, maintenance, and repair, strengthening its role as an integrated maritime industrial hub in Saudi Arabia.

The step aims to localize offshore fabrication capabilities, transfer technical expertise, and increase local content, drawing on Lamprell’s experience in offshore engineering and construction projects and the advanced industrial infrastructure developed by IMI in Ras Al-Khair.

Lamprell Chief Executive Officer Ian Prescott said the agreement allows the company to deploy its expertise in offshore energy projects to support the development of IMI’s capabilities in the Kingdom, while IMI Chief Executive Officer Eng. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi described the move as a significant transition beyond shipbuilding into the offshore fabrication sector.

IMI is the largest integrated maritime facility in the Middle East and North Africa region. Once fully operational, it is expected to have the capacity to build more than 40 vessels and six offshore rigs annually, in addition to providing extensive maintenance and repair services for ships and offshore rigs.

The significance of the agreement goes beyond a new fabrication project. It represents another step in Ras Al-Khair’s transition toward a broader maritime value chain, bringing ships, rigs, platforms, and offshore energy structures together within a single industrial location. This moves local content beyond conventional maintenance and construction into the fabrication of more complex and higher-value offshore structures.
