Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met today, Monday, in Washington with his U.S. counterpart Marco Rubio, where they discussed the strategic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States, security and political developments in the region, and the situation in Yemen.

Maritime security featured prominently in the meeting, as the two sides discussed protecting freedom of passage through international waterways, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, in a way that contributes to regional stability and the continued flow of trade and global supply chains.

The timing of the meeting gives these issues additional weight; Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab today represent two key points in global energy and trade security, while developments in Yemen are directly linked to Red Sea security and regional navigation.

The two sides also affirmed the continuation of Saudi-U.S. coordination and consultations on issues of common interest, and support for diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing crises and strengthening security and stability.

The meeting comes as part of a broader Saudi diplomatic movement in Washington, at a time when regional files are expanding from Yemen to Gulf security and the Red Sea, increasing the need for political and security coordination that links regional security with the security of international waterways.
