The war entered its 207th day amid the consolidation of U.S. and Iranian positions, after President Donald Trump formally announced his rejection of the latest Iranian proposal to end the fighting and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The proposal called for reopening the strait and resuming peace talks within seven days, in return for easing U.S. military and economic pressure and lifting the blockade on Iranian ports. Trump said clearly: “I reject their proposal.”
The Iranian response came from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said Tehran “will not back down from its conditions,” confirming that the disagreement remains centered on its core issue: who makes the first concession, and what Iran receives in return for reopening Hormuz.
In a parallel development, Iran escalated its rhetoric regarding the strait, warning against U.S. interference in managing maritime traffic.
In Yemen, the Saudi Joint Forces Command discussed with Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh raising the readiness of Yemeni forces, unifying efforts, and rehabilitating military units to restore the state and its institutions.
Analysis
What matters today is not the emergence of a new proposal, but its formal collapse from both sides.
Washington does not accept linking the reopening of Hormuz to prior concessions, while Tehran does not want to reopen it without something in return.
The file therefore returns to its basic equation:
Negotiations continue, but the conditions for ending the conflict have not changed.
As for Yemen, it is gradually moving from containing Houthi attacks toward raising the readiness of government forces and unifying the fronts; this is the most important military track to watch in the coming days.
