A permanent center will transform the Saudi presence from seasonal events into sustained institutional engagement, opening a direct path for Saudi creatives to French audiences and cultural institutions

The Ministry of Culture has announced the establishment of a Saudi cultural center in the French capital, Paris, to serve as a permanent platform for introducing the Kingdom’s culture, highlighting its historical depth and creative diversity, and strengthening the international presence of Saudi cultural practitioners.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the visit to France by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The visit included the establishment of the Saudi-French Strategic Partnership Council and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, and cultural fields.

A Permanent Saudi Platform

The center will offer high-quality cultural programs and initiatives for French society, involving creatives and cultural institutions from both countries, while building partnerships with leading French organizations.

Its presence in Paris will provide a continuous platform for presenting the many dimensions of Saudi culture and connecting Saudi practitioners with French and international museums, galleries, publishing houses, and creative platforms.

It will also give French audiences an opportunity to engage directly with Saudi heritage and contemporary cultural production, beyond simplified images or impressions formed through non-Saudi sources.

From Events to an Institution

Paris has hosted several Saudi events in recent years, including the Saudi Cultural Exhibition in 2023, as well as musical, artistic, and literary programs, alongside growing cooperation in AlUla, museums, heritage, and archaeology.

The establishment of the center will give these activities an institutional base capable of organizing them within a continuous program, rather than limiting the Saudi cultural presence to temporary events and exhibitions.

The initiative gains further importance from the decision by Saudi Arabia and France to extend their AlUla partnership until 2035, and from culture’s central role in relations between the two countries.

Paris as an International Gateway

The significance of choosing Paris extends beyond Saudi-French relations. The French capital is a global center for art, museums, publishing, music, cinema, and design. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO.

From this position, the center will be able to reach a broad international audience, establish partnerships extending beyond France to European and global cultural institutions, and support the participation of Saudi artists, writers, musicians, designers, and filmmakers in international programs and platforms.

The center represents an important transition in Saudi cultural diplomacy: from traveling to the world through limited events to establishing a permanent presence within it.

Its true value will not lie in presenting Saudi heritage alone, but in offering a comprehensive image of the Kingdom—its deep history, contemporary creativity, and the transformations taking place across its cultural landscape.

To fulfill this mission, the center will need a continuously renewed program, French-language content, partnerships with local institutions, spaces for Saudi and French creatives, and ongoing measurement of its audience and impact.

Culture does more than correct an image from afar; it gives the world an opportunity to see the Kingdom through its own voice and the creativity of its people.
