Saudi Passports Accelerates Self-Service Departure Procedures for Pilgrims Through Airports

Riyadh | BETH | B

The General Directorate of Passports continues to leverage advanced technologies to facilitate the departure of pilgrims through all international land, air, and sea ports by deploying an integrated digital services system, including electronic gates (E-Gates) at international airports.

The technology enables pilgrims to complete departure procedures independently within seconds through biometric verification, helping enhance passenger flow and reduce waiting times at passport control halls.

The electronic gates are part of the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to improve the experience of the Guests of Allah and enhance the quality of services provided, while increasing the efficiency of international entry and exit points and supporting the digital transformation of the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem.

BETH Analysis

The deployment of electronic gates reflects the rapid transformation taking place in the management of passenger movement across Saudi airports, shifting from traditional procedures toward self-service systems powered by biometric data and smart technologies.

The impact of this technology extends beyond accelerating departure procedures. It also improves operational efficiency, enhances the traveler experience, and strengthens airports’ ability to accommodate large passenger volumes during peak seasons, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to advance government services and accelerate digital transformation.
