In a step reflecting the accelerating digital transformation in the energy sector, Emerson announced the successful deployment of an AI-powered solution for Saudi Aramco, aimed at increasing refinery productivity and enhancing operational efficiency on a global scale.

Saudi Aramco has integrated Aspen Hybrid Models™ into its refinery planning framework, in what is considered one of the world’s largest multi-site, multi-period process optimization models.

The solution combines:

  • First-principles models
  • Deep domain expertise
  • Purpose-built AI technologies

This integration enables the capture of nonlinear relationships between production and quality indicators, raising prediction accuracy to approximately 98.5% in key refinery units.

The implementation has covered:

  • Continuous Catalyst Regeneration (CCR) units
  • Gasoline blending and upgrading units

with ongoing efforts to expand the models to include hydrocracking units.

Direct Impact

  • Prediction accuracy of production and quality reaching 98.5%
  • Improved feedstock blending and greater sourcing flexibility
  • Reduced gap between planning and execution
  • Enhanced operational efficiency with less manual intervention
  • A scalable model across Aramco’s global refining network
