Prince William, Prince of Wales and Crown Prince of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, arrived in AlUla on Tuesday.

He was received upon arrival at AlUla International Airport by Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Madinah Region, along with senior officials, marking the start of an official visit programme that includes field tours and meetings highlighting Saudi Arabia’s cultural and civilizational dimension.

BETH Comment | Reading the Significance

The selection of AlUla as a key stop on the visit’s programme—following Prince William’s arrival in Riyadh last evening and his reception by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—carries symbolic significance beyond protocol. AlUla today is not merely an archaeological site; it has become a narrative platform reflecting Saudi Arabia’s transformation from a country defined solely by its history to one that presents its heritage as part of a contemporary cultural and civilizational project.

The media stake here goes beyond covering reception scenes. It lies in transforming the visit into a story about how Saudi Arabia is told to the world through its places and cultural symbols.
