Saudi Ministry of Sport Surpasses 2025 Targets for Physical Activity Participation
Riyadh – BETH Media
The Saudi Ministry of Sport continues its forward momentum in building a vibrant and active society, driven by a comprehensive vision and innovative initiatives designed to make sports a way of life and a shared culture—not merely a form of entertainment practiced occasionally.
Since the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, with its three pillars — A Vibrant Society, A Thriving Economy, and An Ambitious Nation — the Ministry has worked closely with various stakeholders to translate this vision into tangible results, through national programs that promote health, vitality, and community engagement.
📈 Record-Breaking Progress
In 2025, the Ministry achieved remarkable progress in national physical activity indicators:
59.1% of adults (aged 18 and above) now engage in at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week.
19% of children (aged 5–17) participate in 60 minutes or more of physical activity per week.
These figures exceed Vision 2030’s 2025 targets of 55% for adults and 12% for children, and even surpass the projected goals for 2027 and 2029, reflecting early and sustained success.
🏃♂️ Community Initiatives Driving Growth
Key to this success has been the Ministry’s community-based sports initiatives, most notably the Riyadh Marathon, organized in collaboration with the Saudi Sports for All Federation, attracting over 40,000 participants from 144 countries.
Male participation accounted for 60%, while females made up 40%, highlighting growing inclusivity and engagement.
The Kingdom has also hosted over 130 major sporting events across diverse disciplines, further embedding sports into the fabric of daily life.
⚙️ Investing in the Future of Sports
Through its digital platform “Nafes”, the Ministry has empowered local and international investors to engage directly with the sports sector by licensing clubs, gyms, and academies.
This initiative not only supports private-sector growth but also provides high-quality facilities for public use and helps in discovering young Saudi talents who represent the future of national sports.
Strategic Collaboration and Youth Development
Collaboration remains at the heart of the Ministry’s approach.
One of its most successful initiatives is the National Schools Football League for boys and girls, which saw participation from over 42,000 students aged between 9 and 15, uncovering a new generation of talented young athletes.
The Ministry also works hand in hand with the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing and the Sports Boulevard Foundation to develop community spaces and infrastructure that encourage everyday physical activity.
Sports as a Lifestyle
The Ministry’s year-round public campaigns have significantly influenced local communities, with initiatives such as:
“Sports Are the Best Thing”
“Race Me”
“Burn It”
These creative programs have achieved widespread participation, inspiring citizens and residents alike to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.
