Riyadh hosts the fourth extraordinary congress of the Universal Postal Union in early October 2023
Under the patronage of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the kingdom will host the fourth extraordinary congress of the Universal Postal Union in Riyadh from 1 to 5 October 2023.
The conference will be attended by leaders of the Universal Postal Union, senior officials from ministers, heads of leading companies and representatives of 192 countries around the world to discuss the development of postal services and enhance their developmental role in establishing sustainability standards in various economic, productive and service sectors.
Minister of transport and logistics and chairman of the board of Directors of Saudi Post Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jass explained that the kingdom's hosting of the fourth extraordinary conference of the Universal Postal Union reflects its prominent position on the world stage and its great weight in international organizations, pointing to the importance of enhancing cooperation between the member states of the Universal Postal Union to develop standards for the provision of postal services, support e-commerce, stimulate the digital economy, adopt the best innovative technologies in postal and logistics sector services and employ artificial intelligence, to develop the services provided to beneficiaries and consolidate the kingdom's position as a global logistics hub and a hub connecting continents A model of an integrated transport system.
For his part, UPU director general Masahiko mitoki expressed his gratitude for the support of the kingdom of Saudi Arabia in hosting ministers, chief executives of postal operators and partners, as well as UPU members in the sector.
The director general of the Universal Postal Union said in a statement on this occasion: this extraordinary conference comes at a pivotal stage for the Universal Postal Union, where we are building new bridges of partnerships with various segments of the postal sector. At this conference, we aim to ensure that postal services around the world meet the needs of individuals and companies in an environment where changes and transformations are accelerating and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future,"he added.
It is worth mentioning that the kingdom received the right to host the conference after winning the vote of the member states of the Universal Postal Union during the meeting of the general committee of the board of Directors of the Union, which was held in October 2022 in the Swiss capital Bern.
