The Saudi General Corporation for saline water desalination has succeeded in achieving a qualitative achievement in the field of desalination industry and water services by inventing a new way to raise the quality of desalinated and transported water and solving the problem of bromate ion formation, as researchers from the Institute of research, innovation and desalination technologies and the SAA production system were able to reach an innovative method to solve this problem affecting the quality of water produced and transported from the desalination industry; as a result of the reaction of bromide ion naturally present in the produced water, by sterile materials such as sodium hypochlorite.

The results showed the complete disappearance of bromate ion and other sterilization byproducts in the entire water supply chain from the source, passing through pipes to storage terminals for water distribution in both Makkah and Taif.

This innovation contributes to reducing the costs of using sterile materials by up to 90% compared to other similar methods, and discourages the formation of other sterilization byproducts of the type of organic pollutants, which represents an unprecedented scientific addition.

This achievement complements the innovative March of the institution in developing technical solutions for Water Works, overcoming the most pressing obstacles in the field of desalination industry, by contributing to maintaining the infrastructure of water networks by eliminating corrosion, enhancing the safety, integrity and reliability of the institution's work, and the quality of water produced with the possibility of increasing the concentrations of dissolved salts in it, and raising its reliability to the premium category, according to the specifications approved by the World Health Organization.

Tahlia continues to move forward in maximizing its interest in scientific research, technical development and innovation, as part of its strategic plans to keep pace with the goals of the kingdom's Vision 2030, in a way that enabled it to lead the water industry in the world, and obtain a large number of patents and record achievements in production and energy efficiency, through its research arm, "Institute for research, innovation and desalination technologies", which has volunteered its expertise, research and knowledge energies during 3 decades to develop the desalination industry in the Kingdom and the world, improve the efficiency of plants and increase their capabilities and production quality.
