Beijing stressed that "no one wants to see a third world war... and it is necessary to support peace negotiations (between Russia and Ukraine)."
This came to a press briefing by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin today, Tuesday, in response to a question from a Western journalist about Beijing's assessment of a statement made yesterday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the possibility of a nuclear war.
The Chinese official added that the prolongation of hostilities in Ukraine should not be allowed, stressing the need to contain the negative consequences that the Ukrainian conflict may have, not only on Europe, but also on the whole world.
