Saudi-Chinese Partnership to Develop New Energy Vehicles

Saudi Aramco, one of the world’s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies, has announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement with BYD, the Chinese leader in new energy vehicles and battery manufacturing, to explore opportunities for collaboration in developing sustainable transportation technologies.

The agreement was signed through Aramco Technologies Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aramco, with BYD, aiming to foster the development of innovative solutions that enhance vehicle efficiency and environmental performance, leveraging the combined expertise of both companies’ research and development teams.

Mr. Ali Al-Meshari, Senior Vice President of Coordination and Technical Services at Aramco, emphasized that this agreement builds on Aramco’s efforts to explore new energy solutions. He noted that the company seeks to improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines through the development of low-carbon fuels and advanced drivetrain systems. "We believe in the need for multiple approaches to support an effective energy transition, and we are pleased to collaborate with BYD to drive innovation," he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Luo Hongbin, Senior Vice President of BYD, stated that the partnership reflects BYD's belief that true achievements are realized when technological innovation meets environmental efficiency. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would contribute to developing solutions that combine high performance with low emissions, thereby supporting global efforts to address climate change.

This move aligns with Aramco’s vision to strengthen its role in supporting a sustainable energy future and reaffirms its commitment to contributing to global environmental solutions.
