An Italian company signs a contract for 4.7 billion dollars to build a lake with the project "trogina" in "NEOM"

The Italian company Webbuild signed a contract worth 4.7 billion dollars (17.63 billion reais) for the construction of dams to create an artificial lake in the mountain resort of trogina in the city of Neum.

Webbuild said in a statement that it will build three dams to create a 2.8-kilometer lake in trogina, and will also develop" the Bow " - an architectural marvel that includes a hotel overlooking the mountain valley below.

Trujina is the region that will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games, and is part of the Saudi Vision 2030 program for economic diversification in the kingdom.

According to the statement, Webbuild will build three dams to form a freshwater lake for the ski resort, as well as a series of related innovative works, and more than 10 thousand people will participate in the construction process.
Webbuild pointed out that it will also create the future arch, an architectural structure that will extend on the surface of the lake beyond the front of the main dam, and will be in the form of the bow of a ship hanging over the Valley, and will include a luxury hotel, as well as a residential area, with accommodation and hospitality facilities.

The main dam will be built of compressed concrete and will be 145 meters high, 475 meters long and have a volume of about 2.7 million cubic meters.

The artificial lake will cover an area of 1.5 square kilometers and will have an island dedicated to diving and Botanical walks.

The lake, which will be the largest engineered body of water in Saudi Arabia, is a key feature of lava's masterplan in trogina and, being located at the heart of the project, will be key to trogina's ambition to preserve and regenerate the region's vibrant natural environment, provide a clean and peaceful mountain life outdoors, and become a global hub for water sports and entertainment.

The CEO of Webbuild, Pietro Salini, said that the 2.8-kilometer artificial freshwater lake will be one of the main assets in the master plan of trogina.

"The project is set to be a global engineering and construction marvel, and we believe that our team has the global expertise and experience needed to implement this exciting infrastructure project,"added Salini.

In turn, the executive director - president of the region in trogina, Philippe Joliet, said: "the appointment of Webbuild S. A. is a great success.P.A milestone in our progress in construction. We have already completed about 3 million cubic meters of excavation work at the lake site, and we continue to drill 90 thousand cubic meters of rock per week. Even more important is the implementation of a sustainable approach using all the excavated rocks and reusing them for lining the lake bottom and building dams. This is a crucial stage in the overall development of the project, and we are excited to see the works are in full swing".

On March 3, 2022, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, prime minister and chairman of NEOM, announced the establishment of "trujina" as the new global destination for mountain tourism within the framework of NEOM's plan and strategy to contribute to the support and development of the tourism sector in the region.

The crown prince said that the "trogina" project will contribute to redefining the concept of global mountain tourism by creating an environmentally friendly tourism system in all its dimensions, consistent with the objectives of the kingdom's Vision 2030 to enhance the quality of life and provide a safe and healthy life for all, and confirms the kingdom's efforts to activate global efforts in preserving the elements of nature.

Outdoor snowboarding is one of the highlights of the trujina project at the level of the region in general and the Arab Gulf countries in particular, in order to provide an unparalleled experience, especially in the desert climate characterized by the Gulf countries.

It is planned that the development of the project will be completed in 2026.
